CarClip Review
A safer way to use your iPod while in the car
Created: 01/05/2005 Updated: 01/16/2006 Authors: John Michaels

Can't DJ your iPod and drive at the same time? Most people have a hard enough time just placing a cell phone call while in the car. Trying to drive and find a specific song out of the thousands on your iPod is just plain reckless. In an effort to make your iPod more accessible and the roads a little safer, a company called SK Products has released a product called the CarClip .

WHAT IS THE CARCLIP?
The CarClip is an iPod mounting system that hangs from your vehicle's rear view mirror. The CarClip is cut from a single piece of clear acrylic plastic and conveniently puts the iPod at eye level with the driver. If you are having trouble picturing it, the CarClip looks similar to a 'do not disturb' sign you might hang on the outside of your hotel room door.

INSTALLING THE CARCLIP
The CarClip easily installs on your car's rear view mirror. Just hook it over the mirror and pick the right color and length fishband for your vehicle. The rubber fishbands help the CarClip get a snug custom fit and buffer the natural swinging motion that occurs while driving. One end of the fishband attaches to the CarClip while the other end fastens to the bottom dimmer switch under your rear view mirror.

Don't have a rear view mirror? The CarClip also comes with a Universal Auto Attachment and a pair of 3M CommandStrips (aka double-sided tape) for older model vehicle compatibility or mounting in other locations like your giant yacht or private jet.

iPOD ACCESSORIES
The car clip is designed to keep the top and bottom of your iPod accessible for other iPod add-ons like FM transmitters on top and car chargers using the universal iPod connector from the bottom. Although, you may want to limit the amount of accessories and cables you attach to the iPod while in the car. Too many cables and attachments may block your view of the road.

CAR SAFETY
Several companies make iPod car holders that either mount on the dashboard or utilize beverage cup holders. What sets the CarClip apart from other iPod car mounting systems is that the CarClip keeps your iPod at eye level. Personally I've had a couple close calls while fumbling around with my iPod in the car.

Putting the iPod at eye level helps you keep the road and iPod in the same field of view. However, it's more important to keep your attention on the road before your iPod. The last thing you want is to cause an accident that could hurt others as well as yourself. You will have a tough time explaining to the police how you were trying to find your favorite song, "I'm too sexy" by Right Said Fred, and caused a multiple car pile up. Try switching playlists on your iPod while at stop lights or sitting in traffic, not while changing lanes. Safety first. Music second.

FINAL THOUGHTS
The CarClip makes your music accessible, while at the same time keeping your iPod snug and secure. If you've ever found yourself fumbling with your iPod while in the car, you need to seriously think about getting a CarClip . If you don't do it for yourself, do it for the safety of the other people who need to share the road with you.

reviewWicked Lasers named their new flashlight the TORCH... and for good reason. The "TORCH" is technically a flashlight. It looks like a flashlight. Operates like a flashlight. But this is no ordinary flashlight. The TORCH is so bright that its beam can ignite flammable objects as fast as fire.

This accessory adds even more innovation to the next generation of gaming and does it all with less physical movement.

JBL Creature II Speaker System
What's the point of downloading your favorite songs on iTunes if they sound like crap on your computer's built-in speakers? The sound quality and volume these little babies emit, much to the chagrin of my neighbors, is truly phenomenal.

Apple TV Review
You may have heard of that new Apple product, I believe it's called the, uhh, Apple TV. I understand that newspapers, other blogs, and your Aunt have already reviewed this thing, but I thought I'd add my two cents.

Are you a victim of the iPod's blossoming popularity? Feel like just another pair of white headphones in the crowd? Maybe it's time you got an iPod Mod.

In a world of boring shelf speakers that are as fascinating as the wires that connect them, the JBL Encounter draws people towards it with its innovative tongue-in-cheek design and then lavishes them with deep warm sound.
