iPodKitz Review
A low-cost collection of functional and fashionable iPod accessories
Created: 03/26/2005 Updated: 08/17/2005 Authors: Jon Accarrino & Adam Wade

Assembling like objects is a fairly common practice. Put a few band-aids and some gauze in a box and you have a med-kit. A couple apples and a grapefruit and you're looking at a fruit basket. But throw some iPod accessories in a box and what do you have... an itzkitz iPodkitz?

A Hong Kong based company with the unusual name Itzkitz, has bundled the basic charging and protection needs of every iPod user into a moderately priced iPod survival kit. Each kit is packaged in a cute little tin box (see image on right) reminiscent of the way old English Tea companies used to distribute their products. The inside of each tin is lined with deep foam padding that helps keep the contents organized.

Personally I found the tin case a great place to keep all the little accessories and parts for my iPod. Just pull out the foam interior to use this tin for a variety of uses.

WHAT'S INSIDE
Once you remove the tin lid, you will find the following items inside the iPodkitz:

  • retractable USB 2.0 cable
  • hard leather iPod case
  • belt clip for the case
  • clear headphone Sumajin Smartwrap

RETRACTABLE USB CABLE
Many people use their iPods both at home and work. Anyone who doesn't want to spend money on separate iPod Docks for two locations will love this cable. Its small and compact nature makes it very convenient to carry around everywhere you go with your iPod.

The retractable USB 2.0 cable extends up to 2 feet, so that you can sync or charge your iPod from almost anywhere on your desk.

THE HARD LEATHER CASE
The protective case bundled with each iPodkitz has a durable outer leather hard-shell with a velvety inside (to make sure your iPod doesn't get scratched). The detachable clip system for this case allows you to very easily access your iPod while it's securely attached to your backpack or belt.

The best part about this case is that it is actually pretty fashionable and looks nice with anything from jeans to khakis. It's definitely an upgrade when compared to the cheap rubber or sporty looking cases most people have for their iPods.

HEADPHONE WRAP
In an effort to help save your headphones from getting tangled every time you take them off, all the iPodkitz include a Sumajin Smartwrap. The Smartwrap is very easy to use. Just snap one end of your headphones in, wrap the slack around it and then snap the other end to secure it.

This item alone will probably save you hours of wasted time spend trying to untangle your iPod headphones.

COLORS
One of the downsides of the iPodkitz is the limited color choice. The hard leather cases only come in Red, White and Black, but this should be enough to satisfy the average user.

As you can see in the photo on the right, I have the black case with a red velevet inside.

If you really want a leather case with fancy colors and designs, you will need to shell out a lot more money.

FINAL THOUGHTS
For the low price of only $40, Itzkitz has assembled a nice collection of both functional and fashionable iPod accessories into a handy little tin case.

Attempting to purchase the contents of each kit separately would cost you much more than $40 making this a tough deal to beat. The fancy tin case and Smartwrap are nice to have, but the real stars of the iPodkitz are the leather case and retractable USB 2.0 cable.

Finding a decent leather iPod case will cost you $80+ from companies like Vaja and a retractable USB 2.0 iPod charging cable alone costs $20. Attempting to piece together your own version of the iPodkitz will probably run you over $100 and just isn't worth it.

The iPodkitz are a great deal and make perfect gifts for anyone with an iPod.

The iPodkitz are available for the following iPod models: iPod Mini, iPod 4G, U2 iPod and iPod Photo and is available for purchase from Itzkitz.com

Itzkitz is based in Hong Kong and their mantra seems to be all about providing inexpensive accessories that are both durable and easy to operate. For more information, please visit: http://www.itzkitz.com

OtterBox for iPod Mini
showerOn the run, in the car, or at the gym, our iPods have gone with us to the ends of the earth... except places near water. But thanks to the OtterBox Mini you can now safely take your iPod Mini near or even underwater.

arrowThe Torch
reviewWicked Lasers named their new flashlight the TORCH... and for good reason. The "TORCH" is technically a flashlight. It looks like a flashlight. Operates like a flashlight. But this is no ordinary flashlight. The TORCH is so bright that its beam can ignite flammable objects as fast as fire.

arrowFlip Mino Camcorder

Nintendo Wii Nunchuck Controller
Is a weak arm or physical stamina keeping you from taking your Nintendo Wii gaming experience to the next level? Perhaps you should look into getting the Nintendo Wii Nunchuck Controller. This accessory adds even more innovation to the next generation of gaming and does it all with less physical movement.

JBL Creature II Speaker System
What's the point of downloading your favorite songs on iTunes if they sound like crap on your computer's built-in speakers? The sound quality and volume these little babies emit, much to the chagrin of my neighbors, is truly phenomenal.

Apple TV Review
You may have heard of that new Apple product, I believe it's called the, uhh, Apple TV. I understand that newspapers, other blogs, and your Aunt have already reviewed this thing, but I thought I'd add my two cents.

Mod Your iPod
Are you a victim of the iPod's blossoming popularity? Feel like just another pair of white headphones in the crowd? Maybe it's time you got an iPod Mod.

H20 iPod Mini Case
H20 Audio has created a waterproof and impact resistant case so that we can take our iPod Minis anywhere we want… including the ocean free.

Digital Picture Frames
Why give someone a single still framed picture when you can give them an entire slide show? Most Digital Picture Frames can playback a series of digital photos and videos on high-resolution screens.

JBL Encounter Speakers
In a world of boring shelf speakers that are as fascinating as the wires that connect them, the JBL Encounter draws people towards it with its innovative tongue-in-cheek design and then lavishes them with deep warm sound.
