The Perfect iTote
Fashionable and affordable protection for your iPod
Date Created: 07/31/2004 Last Updated: 05/20/2006 Authors: Ashley Gillen

You're late. You're attempting to run out the door, knowing that you're seconds from missing your train. Wait—where's your bag? You grab it from the spot on the floor where you threw it last night, and rummage through it to make sure you have everything you need for the day. Wallet? Check. Keys? Check. Cell phone? Check. iPod? No… no… THERE it is! Squished on the bottom of your bag. Again.

This is the typical morning of almost every commuter. We've learned to accept it, but our accessories haven't. Somehow, no matter how careful we are during the day with our cell phone, iPod, or any other piece of electronic equipment, they always ends up at the bottom of our bag where they are scratched and mangled when we find ourselves in a hurry again.

So why do we spend hundreds of dollars on convenience electronics—like our iPod—if we are just going to be careless in our crazed moments with it? The inside of my bag is a mess and it's a hostile environment for my iPod. I need organization, not more clutter!

I wanted a small, durable, funky bag made especially to protect my funky iTunes. Sure tons of companies make iPod cases and storage bags. A quick Google search for "iPod bags" returns over 150,000 results. But most of these bags are the boring equivalent of an iPocket-Protector, or way too iExpensive. I want all of the high fashion style of the Gucci ($200) and Fendi ($1500) iPod carriers currently on the market, but I want it for less than the price of my iPod Mini, please.

After an extensive online research mission, I found the perfect solution to my iPod bag headache, the Electra iPod Bag. This stylish padded tote from M. Avery Designs will keep your iPod from finding it's way to the bottom of your bag and it does it in cool and funky way without the designer price tag.

The Electra has a place for all of your electronic gadgets—from your headphones to your battery chargers and all those little iPod gizmos like the iTrip. On the inside, the Electra is roomy enough to fit an iPod of any size, and it has an extra front pocket to neatly organize all your wires and headphone cables. The tote can also clip onto your commuter bag or purse with its matching carabineer clip. Total organization, and protection with style: about $50. Sweet.

And what's better than the price tag? The customization. The Electra, as with any bag from M. Avery Designs, is available in dozens of fabrics from trippy funkadelics and vintage prints, to something a little more subtle for the man in your life. You get to pick the fabric as well as several other options all online. It's like building the perfect bag. Need an extra pocket for your high tech cell phone or PDA? No problem, just add it to your order. Want your name or favorite slogan embroidered on the outside of your bag? No problem. Heck, for an extra $10 you can even get your favorite photograph printed right on the fabric. Like I said, this bag is completely customizable.

Final Thoughts
The Electra is going to organize you and your hectic lifestyle in high style without the high price. Now who doesn't want that? Huh? iTote so. By the way, my custom embroidery says: "iBelong to Ashley"

OtterBox for iPod Mini
showerOn the run, in the car, or at the gym, our iPods have gone with us to the ends of the earth... except places near water. But thanks to the OtterBox Mini you can now safely take your iPod Mini near or even underwater.

arrowThe Torch
reviewWicked Lasers named their new flashlight the TORCH... and for good reason. The "TORCH" is technically a flashlight. It looks like a flashlight. Operates like a flashlight. But this is no ordinary flashlight. The TORCH is so bright that its beam can ignite flammable objects as fast as fire.

If you're looking for an inexpensive, lightweight pair of earbuds with fantastic bass, then Radius' Atomic Bass earbuds are the earbuds of your dreams.

JL421 Badonkadonk Land Cruiser
You The JL421 Badonkadonk Land Cruiser (ba-donk-a-donk) is a custom made tank that looks like it was modeled after Jabba the Hut's Sail Barge from Return of the Jedi. Nicknamed the "Donk," the JL421 Land Cruiser made its debut in 2002 at the Burning Man festival in Nevada.

Nintendo Wii Nunchuck Controller
Is a weak arm or physical stamina keeping you from taking your Nintendo Wii gaming experience to the next level? Perhaps you should look into getting the Nintendo Wii Nunchuck Controller. This accessory adds even more innovation to the next generation of gaming and does it all with less physical movement.

JBL Creature II Speaker System
What’s the point of downloading your favorite songs on iTunes if they sound like crap on your computer’s built-in speakers? The sound quality and volume these little babies emit, much to the chagrin of my neighbors, is truly phenomenal.

Apple TV Review
You may have heard of that new Apple product, I believe it's called the, uhh, Apple TV. I understand that newspapers, other blogs, and your Aunt have already reviewed this thing, but I thought I'd add my two cents.

Mod Your iPod
Are you a victim of the iPod's blossoming popularity? Feel like just another pair of white headphones in the crowd? Maybe it's time you got an iPod Mod.

H20 iPod Mini Case
H20 Audio has created a waterproof and impact resistant case so that we can take our iPod Minis anywhere we want… including the ocean free.

Digital Picture Frames
Why give someone a single still framed picture when you can give them an entire slide show? Most Digital Picture Frames can playback a series of digital photos and videos on high-resolution screens.

JBL Encounter Speakers
In a world of boring shelf speakers that are as fascinating as the wires that connect them, the JBL Encounter draws people towards it with its innovative tongue-in-cheek design and then lavishes them with deep warm sound.

What makes a Wicked Laser "wicked"? How impressive is a military grade laser imported from China? Let's test it and find out...
