OtterBox for iPod Nano Review
Waterproof hard case for your iPod Nano
Date Created: 02/07/2006 Last Updated: 02/04/2007 Authors: ACCARRINO

An iPod is a fragile piece of technology. Unlike my old clunky yellow Sony Sport Walkman, the iPod can't take multiple jarring impacts. The small, thin and scratch prone iPod Nano is very delicate and requires extra gentle care. Outdoor activities especially can be dangerous for your iPod... that is unless you have serious protection like the OtterBox for iPod Nano case.

The OtterBox for iPod Nano is a great protection option for your iPod because it is lightweight, see-through, waterproof and has an interactive membrane allowing you to access the controls while inside.

DURABLABILITY
Sure it's waterproof, but how durable is the OtterBox for iPod Nano case? Can it survive an afternoon with a canine? In the name of science, I fastened the Otterbox clip to my dog's collar and let her run around the house. She just ignored it and went along with her normal dog activities (scratching, sniffing, chasing tail, etc.).

At one point I stuck the headphones in her ears and played a Clay Aiken song (don't worry, at very low volume). She tilted her head and stared at me before pulling the headphones out. Apparently Clay Aiken's singing is confusing to multiple species.

The belt clip stayed fastened to her collar all afternoon without any problems. Honestly, there was no chance the iPod would have come off her collar. The Otterbox belt clip is very secure. It has a curled hook that loops under your belt and will keep the case locked in place. The Otterbox clip was designed to keep the case securely fastened while swimming underwater and should stay fastened during most activities.

" From laying on the beach to snowboarding in a halfpipe, the Otterbox for iPod Nano is a must-have accessory that will keep your iPod safe and dry."

WATERPROOF
The most impressive thing about the OtterBox for iPod Nano is they somehow managed to mold the waterproof headphone connector directly into the case. Several of OtterBox's competitors use a bulky external headphone plug that sticks out of the case like a stray nail that needs to be hammered down. OtterBox's integrated waterproof headphone connector is not only innovative but cleanly executed.

ACCESSING THE CONTROLS
So what happens when you want to access the controls on your iPod while it is inside the case? Once you seal up your iPod inside the Otterbox, you can still access the iPod's click-wheel functions through a clear soft plastic membrane. Even though you can't directly touch your iPod Nano, its controls will remain completely accessible. This interactive membrane is a brilliant feature provides a distinct advantage over several of OtterBox's competitors.

" The Otterbox for iPod Nano is an excellent case that not only offers everyday protection for your iPod, but it is also completely waterproof."

THE BAD
The OtterBox for iPod Nano is a great product. The only issues we had with this case are pretty minor. With the next generation Otterbox case we'd like to see a slimmer belt clip and a wider opening radius.

The Otterbox's clip is a little clunky. It's a large durable plastic clip that securely fastens to any belt. This clip is great for extreme movement activities but my wife likes to take the Nano speed walking and finds the clip slightly bulky. Perhaps Otterbox should consider making a separate slimmer clip for everyday use.

The other issue we had with this case was the opening radius. When you open the OtterBox for iPod Nano case to put your iPod inside, you will notice that the hinge only opens up about about 30º degrees. If it opened up just a little more, putting you iPod inside would be a little easier. Overall, it's nothing major. Just a minor annoyance.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Let's face it, your iPod is more than just an MP3 player. For most people, there's music on there that's not backed-up, contacts, schedules, photos, work files…etc. This can all be wiped out with just a few splashes of water or a bad fall. Protecting your investment with an OtterBox for iPod Nano is just plain smart. Not only is the OtterBox case completely waterproof, it is extremely rugged. If you plan on taking your iPod anywhere near water or sand, then protecting your iPod with an OtterBox for iPod Nano is basically a no brainier.

The OtterBox for iPod Nano is an excellent case that not only offers everyday protection for your iPod, but it is also waterproof. From laying on the beach to snowboarding in a halfpipe, the OtterBox for iPod Nano is a must-have accessory that will keep your iPod safe and dry.

OtterBox makes protective cases for the original iPod, iPod Mini, iPod Video as well as the iPod Nano.

reviewWicked Lasers named their new flashlight the TORCH... and for good reason. The "TORCH" is technically a flashlight. It looks like a flashlight. Operates like a flashlight. But this is no ordinary flashlight. The TORCH is so bright that its beam can ignite flammable objects as fast as fire.

What’s the point of downloading your favorite songs on iTunes if they sound like crap on your computer’s built-in speakers? The sound quality and volume these little babies emit, much to the chagrin of my neighbors, is truly phenomenal.
