How to Reset Your Palm Pilot
Got a frozen Palm Pilot? Here's how to fix it.
Created: 10/21/1999 Updated: 11/14/2009 Authors: Staff

There are probably, thousands of Palm devices out there that are sitting in trash dumps all over the world!! And what's worse, they all work fine! The user may have trashed their beloved Palm because it suffered from a minor case of "needing to be reset." Here's how you can get your baby up and running again. It's quick and often times, effective...

Resetting your palm involves either unscrewing your stylus pen to reveal the built in pointer nub, or simply retreiving a paper clip from your desk drawer will do the trick. With either one, insert the point into the RESET hole on the back of your PALM, which will begin to reset your device. HOWEVER, follow the chart below to see what steps you will need to perform to optimize your Palm's reset capabilities.

When my Palm (see picture right) lost its Calendar button, I was faced with a "Fatal Error" upon every power up...The "Hard Reset" ended up working for me after the other two couldn't do the job.

Did your Palm Pilot freeze? All you need is a paper clip to reset it.
TERM INSTRUCTIONS WHAT IT DOES DATA
Soft Reset Press Reset button and allow Palm to restart. You usually would need to use a soft reset when a 3rd Party app causes conflict with your Palm causing it to freeze or produce an error message. Will NOT ERASE ANY DATA!
Warm Reset Press reset button while holding down the "up" button on the front of your Palm. Bypasses system extensions, HackMaster Hacks, LaunchPad hooks, PalmOS Updates. Cures "boot loop" problem (when your palm constantly resets itself with the "Welcome to Palm" message flashing repeatedly. Will NOT ERASE ANY DATA!
Hard Reset Press the reset button while holding down the power button. Hold down Power button until you see the logo screen and then let go. *SEE QUICKTIME MOVIE ABOVE* Last resort reset. Say goodbye to everything on your palm and I hope you backed up your info on your computer. Your next sync will allow you to retreive all your old info and start up as new. If 3rd party app is the guilty party, install apps one at a time until you reveal the culprit. TIP: Bad 3rd party app usually does not display icon in application's launcher. Will ERASE ALL DATA!
