CBS Sets Time for Rather’s Farewell Special

CBS Sets Time for Rather's Farewell Special 1When Dan Rather, right, and CBS News announced, separately and with some acrimony, that Mr. Rather would leave the network in June after nearly four decades, the network said one of his parting gifts would be a prime-time special devoted to reviewing his career. Yesterday CBS announced a time and a date that ensured that the special would be seen by a relatively small audience, at least by prime-time standards: 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, typically a getaway day for the Labor Day weekend. It also means that the special will be broadcast before Katie Couric makes her debut, on Sept. 5, in Mr. Rather’s old seat on the ”CBS Evening News.” In a news release CBS described the special, ”Dan Rather: A Reporter Remembers,” as ”a candid memoir of the newsman’s extraordinary career” that would be ”told primarily in his own words.” In the release Mr.

Rather is quoted as saying, ”Time moves on, and you move on.” He will soon begin appearing in a new venture, a weekly interview program on a high-definition television channel known as HDNet.
