Katie Couric‘s new gig as the face of the CBS Evening News looks like it’s going to be harder than she thought. After some promising numbers from the first few episodes, Couric’s newscast slid down to 3rd place on Monday.
Monday was the 5th anniversary of 9/11 and a big news day for every news organization. Unfortunately for Katie Couric, viewers returned to their old viewing habits. NBC Nightly News drew 8.3 million viewers, followed by ABC World News with 7.9 million and the CBS Evening News with 7.5 million.
This is bad news for CBS. The former TODAY Show cohos drew in 13.6 million viewers for her September 5th debut. Monday’s drop to 7.5 million is almost a loss of 50% of her audience in less than a week.
