Hank Close has been named president of U.S. advertising sales at MTV Networks, effective immediately.
As was first reported by Mediaweek earlier this afternoon, Close, who had served as the executive vp and general manager of ad sales for MTVN’s music and comedy groups since February 2005, was named the successor to transitioning ad sales president Larry Divney, who left his full-time position in April.
Close will continue to report to MTVN president and COO Michael Wolf, who came aboard in November 2005 as the chief implementator of the company’s digital media strategy.
As part of a deal brokered in April, Close had shared oversight of MTVN ad sales throughout this year’s upfront with Sue Danaher, executive vp and general manager of ad sales for the Nickelodeon properties, as well as TV Land and Spike TV. In his new role, Close will add Danaher’s responsibilities to his plate.
MTVN also confirmed that Danaher has decided to leave the company. Danaher had been with MTVN since 1993, where she joined as senior vp and national sales manager, before moving up to the executive vp/general manager ad sales spot in in October 2000.
