NBC and Carson Daly are offering all those YouTube-video-starring users a chance at TV stardom, and a chance to make some actual money.
The network, in conjunction with Daly’s own production team, Carson Daly Productions, has announced the launch of It’s Your Show, a new programming initiative through which NBC is requesting amateur actors and producers to submit “storytelling videos” at Itsyourshowtv.com. Each week, these videos will be voted on by Web users, with winners receiving cash prizes along with a chance to have these videos eventually appear on air.
While attempting to tap into the user-generated phenomenon, NBC is guiding the creative process for It’s Your Show by providing entrants with a set of tools designed to enhance their videos, including clips from famous movies, TV shows and news events, along with audio tracks. The network is also providing specific creative guidelines for users to adhere to – such as requiring them to produce a story that mimics a horror film one week or a sitcom the next.
