“NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams” won the ratings race the week in which the anchor and his counterparts spent a lot of effort and money on two days in Amman, Jordan, to cover the Mideast summit about the increasingly volatile situation in Iraq.
Second-place ABC’s “World News With Charles Gibson,” less than 500,000 viewers behind, was the only broadcast network flagship newscast to show growth compared to a year ago.
According to data from Nielsen Media Research for the week of Nov. 27, “NBC Nightly News” averaged 9.84 million total viewers, a decrease of 6 percent from a year ago.
ABC’s “World News” averaged 9.38 million total viewers, up 3 percent year-to-year.
“CBS Evening News” averaged 7.69 million total viewers, down 4 percent from a year ago. It was the fourth consecutive week in which “Evening News” drew a smaller audience than a year ago, when Bob Schieffer was anchoring.
