Funny, Meredith Vieira doesn’t look like a duck.
But that’s the analogy her Today boss uses to describe the seamless transition to Vieira from CBS-bound coanchor Katie Couric three months ago.
So seamless that on Friday, NBC’s Today marked its 11th consecutive year as Nielsen’s breakfast of champions. That’s 572 weekly wins, if you’re keeping score.
“I compare it to a duck swimming along the pond,” says Today’s Jim Bell. “It looks smooth on the surface, but rest assured that beneath the surface, there’s a considerable amount of paddling going on.”
Before Vieira was signed, coanchor Matt Lauer worried there would be a lot more paddling.
