NBC Universal and News Corp. have added Comcast as a distribution partner for the company’s recently announced online video venture.
The new joint venture, which officially launches sometime this summer, will establish a new YouTube-esque Web site that will showcase various NBC and Fox series while also distributing episodes of both networks’ shows across the Web on sites like AOL, MSN and MySpace. With the new Comcast deal, the venture’s library of content will also be available on Comcast’s own Web properties: Comcast.net and the soon to launch Fancast.com.
In exchange, Comcast will distribute video content from its various cable networks, including E!, Style, G4, Versus and Golf Channel on the soon to launch NBCU/News Corp. site. Plus, the new venture will employ the Comcast-owned thePlatform, Inc., a company that provides online video distribution technology.
