Gemstar-TV Guide is stepping up its breaking-news efforts with Thursday’s launch of a new homepage on TVGuide.com featuring continually updated television news. Through the new initiative, news reported by the company’s reporters and editors from TV Guide magazine, TV Guide Channel and TV Guide Online will be posted on the company’s Web site before broadcast. TV Guide magazine and TV Guide Channel will provide expanded coverage of that news and content.
“By pooling our cross-platform resources to create a TV Guide news bureau dedicated to breaking stories in a timely fashion, we’re ensuring that we deliver a daily must-read for TV fans,” said Ian Birch, Gemstar-TV Guide chief content officer and editor in chief of TV Guide magazine, who is overseeing the new initiative. “Using our Web site to break news first and then adding context through our magazine and channel is something this company is uniquely positioned to do.” Other features of TVGuide.com’s new homepage include TV Guide editorial commentary, a user community, a greater emphasis on broadband video and previews and features surrounding the upcoming evening’s shows.
