Snoop to host MTV Europe awards

Snoop to host MTV Europe awards 1Snoop Dogg has been announced as the host for this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards.
The event, which is being held in the German city of Munich, is being given a makeover so that the MTV audience will decide on the nominees for the various award categories.

Among the early confirmations for performers at the ceremony are Mika and Foo Fighters, while the broadcaster will announce other big names in the weeks leading up to the awards on November 1.

MTV is launching initiatives throughout Europe to encourage its audience to vote for their favorite acts, with online and mobile polls making up much of the decision process.

Audiences are also being urged to nominate their favorite up-and-coming artists to compete in a European-wide competition on the MTV and Sony Ericsson website. Semi-finalists across 18 MTV markets will ultimately be narrowed down to three acts flown to Munich, with the ultimate New Sounds of Europe winner given a performance slot during the awards show.

“For the first time ever, MTV’s audiences are taking total control of the awards by choosing nominees and winners. With the debut of the New Sounds of Europe Award, the EMAs will be introducing new artists and music to Europe and the world in an unprecedented way,” said Richard Godfrey, executive producer of the show.
