How To Protect Your Job [tips]

F-YouWhen you start talking about lawyers, a lot of people cringe. When you start talking about contracts, people step back. However, when you start talking about protection, a lawyer and a contact are your best friends.

That is what this video of Mike Monteiro presenting at the Creative Mornings conference is about. How to protect yourself, get paid for your work and keep an employer from outsourcing or replacing your job. I, myself am in the middle of a situation where I have 1 client that hasn’t paid me for work over 2 years ago and another that is starting to show signs of the same (after 3 years of work, nonetheless). If you are in business for yourself, then you will definitely want to check out this video titled “F*ck You, Pay Me.” It’s very revealing.

I actually just did the first faux-pas he mentions. I had a client that wasn’t following our contract, so I sent them an email. It was a bit different than what Mike talked about, because it outlined facts, followed by the F*ck you, pay me.

Mike Monteiro is the co-founder of Mule Design Studio (muledesign.com).
