USA Network and Yahoo! Music have entered a pact to help unsigned and independent artists gain significant exposure on the television network. The deal, a first in the TV industry, will allow Yahoo! Music and its LAUNCHcast radio service to track consumer feedback, which will then be directly reported to the USA Network for use in their programming and marketing. Under the terms of the venture, USA will then sign the mutally agreed upon artist for an incubation period.
The partnership came when Spencer Proffer, a media consultant for Meteor 17, connected the two companies to brainstorm a new way to expose artists in an unconventional manner. Proffer will also be on board to oversee the development and promotion of the artists signed.
“We all quickly realized that the collective power of [Yahoo!] and [USA] could generate tremendous awareness for new music,” says Jay Frank, vice president of programming and label relations for Yahoo! Music. “We already have a rich history of working with independent and unsigned artists because, for us, it’s always about connecting the right music to the right fans.”
