The long-awaited battery-saving update to iOS 5.0 is out and you don’t even have to connect your iPhone to your computer to install it. A few of us just did the “over the air” update and it worked like a charm. The iOS 5.0.1 update is about a 40 MB download, so make sure you are connected to WiFi if you want to be up in running with iOS 5.0.1 in under 10 minutes.
Here’s how to update your iPhone to iOS 5.0.1 “over the air” without connecting to a computer or using iTunes.
- Turn on and pick up your iPhone
- Connect to WiFi
- Open the Settings app
- General
- Software Update
- Download & Install
- Wait a few minutes for the software to install
- Your iPhone will automatically restart
- Maybe more than once (one of ours restarted twice)
- That’s it!
Let hope those battery life issues are finally behind us because iOS 5.0 really sucked.
