Comedy Central has launched an online talent competition for stand-up comedians. The winner gets a $10,000 cash prize and will appear in a Comedy Central show.
Burger King has signed on as the exclusive sponsor of the contest, called “Open Mic Fight.” Hopefuls will upload video entries on Comedy Central’s Web site, beginning Tuesday. The network will select 72 comics to appear in regional competitions in Boston, New York, Miami, Chicago, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Austin, Texas.
Comedycentral.com users will vote to select 12 semifinalists to compete in a live event Sept. 6 in Los Angeles. Three finalists from that contest will have their clips posted, and an online vote will crown a winner. The winner, who also will receive professional representation, will perform in a Comedy Central live tour and be a “featured comic” on iTunes, VOD and mobile platforms.
