Ever wonder what casinos do with all those old decks of playing cards? Every day millions of playing cards are trashed by casinos after only a few days or even just hours of use. But a company called BRC Designs is finding new ways to give life to playing cards after they’ve done their time on the Black Jack and Poker tables. One of their recent projects is a chair made out of 350 decks of retired cards. They appropriately call it the “Deuces Wild” chair.
Designed by the very talented Benjamin Rollins Caldwell, the Deuces Wild Chair is a brilliant example of how almost anything can be upcycled and given new life. Instead of these 18,200 playing cards only being used for a few hours, they now have a new long life as a lounge chair.
Who Should Buy The Deuces Wild Chair?
If the casinos were smart, they’d buy tons of these chairs for their lobbies and lounges. Not only would the Deuces Wild chair make a stunning conversation piece, but it’s “green” and would project an image of(Amazon link) environmental thought leadership to their guests.
I could also see some famous poker and blackjack players wanting a Deuces Wild Chair. If playing cards is how you make a living, then it makes a lot of sense. All of those used playing cards need somewhere to go besides a landfill.
