There’s a fine line between using your Christmas decorations to get attention and causing a neighborhood panic. This Kansas City, MO resident crossed it. Shortly after setting up this fake scene of someone in distress while hanging Christmas lights, he had to take it down. Thant’s right, his Christmas decoration prank was so realistic that his neighbors called the Police.
Neighborhood Traffic Problems
“Good news is that I truly outdid myself this year with my Christmas decorations. The bad news is that I had to take him down after 2 days.”
People driving by the house would panic and stop short and pull into the driveway or even the yard. Even the police were unhappy and advised that it be taken down.
“I really needed to take him down as I am sure there would have been wrecks out there. I have more than a few tire tracks where people literally drove up my yard. That was just one thing I did not think of. I even impressed myself with how real he looked.”

People Got Angry
After people discovered that the scene was fake, they became enraged. They wanted to yell at something. And when the homeowner wasn’t around to yell at, they would take their anger elsewhere. But all and all, most people really liked it.
“When I wasn’t home, some people would go yell at my neighbors. I guess they needed someone to yell at. Another guy smashed our pumpkins that we had up as decoration for Thanksgiving. Some people would write us nasty letters.”
Good Samaritans
Another issue was trying to prevent good Samaritans from hurting themselves.
“A 55-year-old lady grabbed the 75-pound ladder and almost killed herself putting it against my house and didn’t realize it was fake until she climbed to the top (she was not happy). By the way, she was one of many people who attempted to do that.”
