DJ and mash-up artist extraordinaire, Gregg Gillis (aka Girl Talk) is back this week with All Day, his fifth album as Girl Talk. And if you’ve never seen his performance, you’ve been missing out on one of the hottest live music acts in the past couple years.
Using samples from Jane’s Addiction to Cali Swag District and everything in between, Gillis crafts together pop music collages at a feverish pace (and if you’re curious, he uses Adobe Audition and Audiomulch as tools). His shows have won acclaim for their energy and are perhaps some of the brightest dance party memories for anyone that’s been, myself included.
A couple listens into All Day and I have to say I’m happy with the new release, perhaps an improvement from 2008’s Feed The Animals. It’d be difficult and lengthy to name all the artists sampled, but since the album is available for free on the Illegal Art website, I’ll let you discover it for yourself.
Girl Talk kicks off an extensive tour this Friday that continues well into 2011. If you’re thinking of going, get those tickets soon. He’s no secret, but that doesn’t make him any less awesome.
