Pepper X boasts an astonishing average of 2.69 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), making it significantly hotter than its predecessor, the Carolina Reaper, which previously held the title. And since the Scoville scale is logarithmic, Pepper X is actually closer to 3-4 times hotter than the Carolina Reaper. That’s hotter than police pepper spray.
Pepper X: The Hottest Pepper in the World is Here to Set Your Taste Buds on Fire ... #PepperX #HottestPepperInTheWorld #GuinnessWorldRecords #ScovilleHeatUnits #CarolinaReaper Share on XWho Created Pepper X?
Pepper X was created by Ed Currie, founder of Puckerbutt Pepper Company. He appeared on the YouTube show Hot Ones to receive his Guinness award for the World’s Hottest Pepper.
But don’t feel bad for the previous Guinness record holder for the hottest pepper. That was also Currie. He released the Carolina Reaper hot pepper in 2013.
Currie actually created this new hot pepper several years ago. He’s been keeping it secret and waiting for another pepper grower to beat the Carolina Reaper’s SHU record. At that point, he could swoop in and reclaim his hottest pepper title. But after years of waiting, Currie figured it was time to come forward with his new creation.
What Does Pepper X Taste Like?
Sure, it’s insanely hot, but what does Pepper X actually taste like? For one thing, it’s not for the faint of heart. It is so hot that it can cause burns to your skin and eyes if not handled carefully. But for those who dare to try it, Pepper X is said to have a complex flavor with hints of fruit and smoke.
So, what do you do with a pepper that’s so hot it could almost melt your face? Well, for one thing, you could try adding it to your favorite chili recipe to give it a kick strong enough to make a dragon cry. To avoid overpowering your meal, start with a small amount and gradually increase it according to your taste. It’s important to be cautious as it’s easy to use too much. And when something’s too spicy, there’s no going back. Just a few drops might make an entire batch of chili too spicy.
Currie is one of the few people who have ever eaten an entire Pepper X hot pepper. In an interview with the Associated Press, he described the painful experience. After 3+ hours of heat, he then endured an hour of cramps so “horrible” that he lay flat in the rain for an hour waiting for the cramps to subside.
Where To Buy Pepper X Online
Even if you wanted to torture yourself like Currie, you can’t take the Pepper X challenge and eat it straight. According to Currie’s lawyer, over 10,000 products have used the Carolina Reaper name without permission. To help protect his intellectual property, neither pods nor seeds from the Pepper X pepper will be sold. The only way to taste the world’s hottest pepper will be from Pepper X hot sauces.
If you are lucky, you might be able to find some(Amazon link) Pepper X bottles on Amazon.com. Just make sure you’re buying from the Puckerbutt Pepper Company, otherwise it’s a knock-off.
