A Los Angeles teen says his(Amazon link) Razer gaming headset ($40+ via Amazon) saved his life when a stray bullet came through his bedroom window. The incident took place just after midnight on April 1, 2022.
Stray Bullet Ricocheted Off Razer Gaming Headset
The 18-year-old teen, Jonathan Gonzalez, was playing a video game on his Sony PlayStation when he felt something hit his head.
Initially stunned by the impact, Gonzalez didn’t realize what happened until he saw the bullet hole in his window. The teen then ran into his parents’ bedroom screaming that he’d been shot.
After a closer inspection, the family realized that after the bullet went through the teen’s window, it ricocheted off of his gaming headphones, dented his bedroom wall, and then ultimately fell onto his bed.
Had the bullet not hit Gonzalez’s(Amazon link) Razer headset, he thinks that he would have been killed.
“You can see the damage, it actually bent this piece of metal here and went through,” Gonzalez said as he showed CBS News reporters where the stray bullet hit the headset. “If it wasn’t for these (Razer gaming headset) on my head, it probably would’ve went through.”
They still don’t know where the bullet came from, but Gonzalez’s parents feel blessed that their son is still alive.
“It’s still a trigger for me to process the thought that I could’ve lost my son,” said Janet Popoca, Gonzalez’s mother. “We were asleep and if it did hurt him, we would not have known until we woke up hours later.”
LAPD Officers Are Still Searching For The Shooter
When responding LAPD officers arrived to the scene, they were just as shocked as the family to hear about the gamer’s close call with a stray bullet. Officers couldn’t find either the gun or shooter in the area, but they don’t think that the bullet was fired from close range. The case is still open.
Razer’s Response To The Incident
After learning about how their product protected the teen, the hardware award-winning company kindly sent Gonzalez a brand-new pair of(Amazon link) gaming headphones.
Maybe Razer should update their marketing. What are the potential benefits of using a gaming headset? In-game chat, surround sound… and it might save your life.
