Good news for Arrested Development fans! Seven years ago in 2006, FOX canceled the popular TV series after its 3rd season. But thanks to Netflix, the series is coming back! Netflix signed a deal with the owners of Arrested Development, Twentieth Century Fox Television and Imagine Entertainment. The deal brings Arrested Development seasons 1-3 plus a brand season 4 exclusively to Netflix subscribers.
Arrested Development Netflix Season 4
A new season of Arrested Development will be better late than never for fans. Even though the last original episode of Arrested Development was almost 6 years ago, it has stayed extremely popular on services like the iTunes Store and Netflix. Fans can’t get enough of the series even though it only aired for a few seasons (2003-2006). The new season, Season 4, will be available to Netflix subscribers Q1 2013.
“Netflix‘s bold entrance into original programming presents an exciting new opportunity for our two companies,” said Peter Levinsohn, Fox Filmed Entertainment’s President of New Media & Digital Distribution, in a statement, “Bringing a classic show back to production on new episodes exclusively for Netflix customers is a game-changer, and illustrates the potential the new digital landscape affords content providers like Twentieth Century Fox Television and Imagine.”
Arrested Development Netflix
Netflix was in dire need of some positive news. The last few months they’ve been plagued with bad press due to fan reaction to their rate increase and half-cocked decision to spin off their DVD rental business. The Arrested Development deal with Fox Entertainment brings Netflix closer to their strategy to become a paid entertainment channel like HBO. In addition to the new season of Arrested Development, Netflix already made a deal to produce a 2012 series from Kevin Spacey and David Fincher called House of Cards.
