Ashton Kutcher has nothing on Stephen Colbert. This week, the funny man (Colbert, that is) won Twitter’s first annual Golden Tweet award for the most re-tweeted one-liner: “In honor of oil-soaked birds, ‘tweets’ are now ‘gurgles.’ http://bit.ly/cIhZNf” Obviously sent out at the peak of BP’s colossal crisis, it was a call to garner support for the Address the Mess campaign launched over at Comedy Central (hence the bit.ly), “the network’s new pro-social campaign is committed to showing viewers easy ways to reduce waste, improve their lives and help revive the planet.”
Colbert wasn’t the only one doing his best to bring a touch of humor to the Gulf Coast grossness. Remember the BP PR imposter, also on Twitter? Then there were the Hollywood chime-ins. Oh lord.
Congrats, Colbert! Add that to your impressive list of honors (including things/teams/space station treadmills named after you), you patriotic pillar of comedy! Methodshop loves you … and so does America.
Check out his acceptance speech below. Highlight: “To all the others that lost out to me this year, and especially Kanye West, I just want to say it has been an honor just to have crushed you.” Word.
