The last thing we probably need is something else to distract us on Facebook, but let’s now welcome the Dungeons & Dragons: Tiny Adventures app to help hack away at our daily productivity.
The app is simple. Just pick a character — mine is a human cleric named Harmik Kaznure — then go on adventures. You don’t actually control the action, but rather wait for updates to appear and tell you how your encounters went. Success rests on virtual dice rolls based on your stats.
Tiny Adventures gives you a bit of hands-on play, by managing your character’s inventory with loot you pick up during adventures and by using potions to help bolster your chances of successful encounters.
The nod to social interaction — this is a Facebook app after all — is that you can “buff” up your friends’ character stats temporarily with one click, or even heal them — you’ll get notifications when your bud’s hero is in dire need of assistance.
You’ll need to be patient while trying to access the app right now: The servers are taking a pounding from all the early adopters. I was able to play Saturday with no problems, but I haven’t been able to connect properly since.
I just hope Harmik didn’t die during the last adventure I sent him off on.
