OLDBURY, England – Lazybones Dennis Taylor was so nuts about Elvis Presley that he lay in bed listening to Elvis music for 18 straight days – till he died with his headphones on!
Doctors say the 36-year-old man suffered from a medical condition that required daily exercise and a special diet to keep blood from clotting in his legs.
He died when a clot traveled through his bloodstream and stopped his heart as he was listening to The King in bed.
“Blue Suede Shoes” was blaring away on the dingbat bachelor’s tape player when his shattered dad James found him dead.
“He died on his back with his hands behind his head, like he was still enjoying the music,” said his heartsick sister, Di Bissell. “He just listened till he couldn’t listen anymore.”
Devastated Di, 44, said her unemployed brother had been enthralled by Elvis since he was 8 years old.
“He’d turned his bedroom into a shrine, with Elvis pictures and posters and mementos covering the walls,” she said. “He tried to dress like Elvis and walk like Elvis and act like Elvis.
“He wouldn’t listen to anything but Elvis or watch anything but Elvis movies on TV.” But sad-eyed Di said she had no idea why her brooding brother would crawl into bed and refuse to get out. She said he may have recently suffered through a Heartbreak Hotel-style breakup with a girlfriend.
Shaken James, 64, said his son would slip out of bed to use the bathroom or grab something to eat but would climb right back under the covers.
“There is nothing wrong with listening to Elvis Presley,” said the distraught dad. “But you shouldn’t let him sing you into the grave.”
