According to IMDB, a release date of July 11, 2008 has been set for the 3rd installment of NBC Universal’s hit film franchise, The Mummy.
Final casting decisions still haven’t been made, but supposedly Brendan Fraser will once again return, but not in the lead role. Alex Pettyfer, the young star of Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker, may play the part of Alex O’Connell — the son of main characters Rick and Evy O’Connell. Alex is expected to be the film’s central protagonist, with Brendan Fraser’s character taking a backseat. Rumors of Pettyfer’s casting first surfaced at TV.com. Rachel Weisz has opted to not reprise her role from the previous film (probably something to do with that Oscar she won). The Mummy 3 will also feature Jet Li as a Chinese Mummy and a terracotta army of 6,000.
Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious) is directing The Mummy 3 (a.k.a. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor). The script was written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville).
