There was a lot of great music at SXSW Music this year. But even if you weren’t able to experience SXSW live in Austin, Texas, you can still download music from the attending bands. iTunes is selling the songs for $0.99 each. Or you can download 1,000 free and legal SXSW mp3s using BitTorrent.

By using BitTorrent to distribute MP3s, SXSW is able to distribute this MP3 collection efficiently and economically. You help SXSW distribute the file as you download it. The more people downloading the file at any given time, the faster everyone will be able to download it.
The SXSW MP3 Collection
Just download the two SXSW 2006 torrent files below and open your favorite BitTorrent client. There’s some great stuff in the collection, including music from The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Cat Power, Wolfmother and Band of Horses. It will probably take a day or two depending on your Internet connection to download all the songs, but hey, it’s free.
