Here’s one of our favorite Christmas morning movie scenes of all time from a 1985 movie called “Better Off Dead” starring John Cusack, Diane Franklin, David Ogden Stiers, Kim Darby, and Curtis Armstrong.
Better Off Dead Christmas Morning
This Better Off Dead Christmas scene shows what Christmas morning is like for the main characters in the film. It doesn’t matter if you are giving or receiving gifts, everyone’s gifts suck. Lane (John Cusack) finds out that both he and another guy got his girlfriend the same thing, but Lane’s gift is much smaller. And to make matters worse, all Lane got from his parents is a stack of frozen dinners. But Lane isn’t alone in his misery. French exchange student, Monique (Diane Franklin), gets an ugly framed photo of Ricky (Dan Schneider) for Christmas. Lane’s dad gets a very “warm” aardvark fur jacket complete with an aardvark hood. By the end of the morning, Lane is attempting suicide in the garage. But his attempt fails in a hilarious climax to this fantastic scene.
