But the main focus of the game is to enchant the ladies. Your goal is simple: help Larry Laffer lose his virginity before dawn. Trust me, he needs all the help that he can get.

There are four women (and a blowup doll) that Larry can attempt to charm in this game. They are a Hooker, Faith the receptionist, Fawn from the Disco, and of course, Eve in the Penthouse. Make sure you save the Apple for Eve. She is essentially the “boss” level in this game.

Lefty’s Bar: The Beginning

The game starts outside a seedy establishment called Lefty’s Bar. Stay out of the street or you will get run over. Also, don’t try to walk up or down the street. There’s a thug that will beat you to death. Just go inside the bar.

Lefty’s Bar has several rooms: a bar, a bathroom hallway, a bathroom, a storage room, and a hooker’s bedroom. There’s also an alley with a fire escape and a trash bin to the right of the building.

• “Open door” to Lefty’s Bar and go inside
• Walk over to the jukebox and “play jukebox” to waste $1 and hear the game’s theme song again (optional)
• “Sit” at a barstool
• “Talk to the bartender” (optional)
• “Buy wine” (optional)
• “Buy beer” three times in a row. “Stand up” and try to walk. Larry will stumble around for a few moments. “Sit” down to order another drink. (optional)
• “Buy Whiskey” (1 point). Larry won’t drink it right away and it will get added to your inventory. “Stand” up and walk to the bathroom hallway to the left of the bar.

• “Get rose” from the table (1 point)

• “Change channel” several times until the Pimp starts watching TV (8 points)
• Walk up the stairs
• “Look at the girl” but do NOT have sex with the hooker. You will get an STD and die.
• Walk over to the table by the window and “Take candy” from the table (2 points)
• “Open the window” and “climb out the window”

Lefty’s Bar: Alley

• Walk to the left of the fire escape. You will fall into the trash bin below
• “Look in the bin” and you will see a left-handed hammer
• “Take the hammer” (3 points)
• “Exit” the trash bin
• Walk to the left to return to the front entrance of Lefty’s
• “Hail a taxi” and “enter” taxi when he pulls up
• “Talk to the driver” and tell him “store”
• “Pay” cabbie. If you forget, he will kill you.
• “Exit” taxi (1 point)

Quiki-Mart Convenience Store

In addition to the aisles of merchandise inside the store, there’s a payphone outside.

• If you see a drunk man, just ignore him. You need to go inside and buy him some wine first.
• There’s a payphone outside. “Look at the phone” (1 point). It should start ringing. Answer it (5 points).
• If it doesn’t ring, then “use the phone” and dial 555-6969 (2 points). Take the phone survey.
• Hang up
• Enter the store
• Walk over to the magazine rack
• “Get magazine” (1 point)
• “Read magazine” (1 point)
• Walk to the back aisle.
• “Get wine” (1 point)
• Look at the sign on the counter

Convenience Store: Outside

• The payphone should be ringing. Answer the phone. Listen to survey results.
• The drunk should be outside. “Give man wine” and he’ll give you a pocket knife (5 points).
• Use the phone and call the Sierra Help Line: 209 683-6858. This number is listed in the game’s printed instruction booklet (5 points).
• “Hail a taxi” and “enter” taxi
• It’s time to go back to Lefty’s Bar. Tell the cabbie to take you to the “bar.”
• “Pay” the cabbie and “exit” the taxi

Lefty’s Bar: Hooker Visit

• Enter the bar
• “Knock” on the door to the Storage Room.
• Give the password again: “Ken sent me”
• The Pimp is still watching TV
• Walk upstairs
• Stand by the bed. Now that Larry has a condom, he can safely visit the hooker.
• “Take off clothes”
• “Put on the condom” (10 points)
• “Get into bed” and Larry will have sex with the hooker (11 points).
• “Remove condom.” If you don’t, the police will beat you to death for indecent exposure as soon as you walk outside (1 point).
• “Climb out the window”
• Walk left and fall into the dumpster
• Climb out of the dumpster
• Walk to the left to go to the front entrance of Lefty’s
• “Hail a taxi” and “enter” taxi
• Tell cabbie “Casino”
• “Pay” cabbie when you arrive and “exit” taxi

Casino: Time To Gamble

The Casino has eight floors. The first floor has a casino, a cabaret lounge with a comedian, and an elevator. There’s a honeymoon suite on the fourth floor and a reception on the eighth floor. Ignore the other floors.

• If you see a man outside the Casino selling apples, buy one. You’ll need it for later. If you don’t see him, don’t worry, he’ll be there later when you leave. If you talk to him, he’ll tell you his name is Steve Woz, a reference to Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. “Buy apple” (3 points).
• Enter Casino
• Either “sit” at the blackjack table or “play the slots”
• When you started the game, you had $94 in your wallet. After your various taxi rides and purchases, you should have about $60 left. Type “open wallet” to check.
• Save your game and start gambling. Keep gambling until you have about $250. Restore your game if you lose. You need the cash for taxis and other expenses. If you go broke in this game, you’ll die.
• When you’re ready to stop gambling, “exit” the game you are playing and walk to the back of the Casino to enter the elevator bank in the Casino’s lobby.

Casino: Lobby & Cabaret

• Walk over to the ashtray and “look at the ashtray.” You’ll see a card inside. It’s a Disco Pass Card.
• “Get card” (1 point)
• Enter the cabaret to the right.
• If the cabaret is empty, then walk out and back in multiple times until you see a live show on the stage.
• All the tables in the cabaret are reserved except the one to the far right.
• “Sit” at the table. There’s a whoopie cushion on the chair (1 point).
• “Stand” up
• Leave the Casino. If you see the guy selling apples, then walk over to him and “buy apple” (3 points).
• “Hail a taxi” and “enter” taxi
• Tell cabbie “Disco”
• “Pay” cabbie when you arrive and “exit” taxi

Disco: Meet Fawn

• Try to enter the Disco. The doorman won’t let you go inside.
• Show the doorman the Card that you found at the Casino in the ashtray. “Show the card” (5 points)
• Walk up the stairs and enter the Disco.
• There’s a table with a girl. “Sit” at the table (1 point).
• “Look at the girl” (0 points)
• “Look at the girl” again (1 point)
• “Talk to the girl” and she will tell you her name, Fawn (1 point)
• “Talk to girl” again. She will eventually tell you that she likes presents. Good thing you have some.
• Type “give rose” (5 points), “give candy” (5 points), and “give ring” (5 points). Fawn will be happy.
• Invite her to dance by typing “dance” (5 points)
• “Stand” up. The two of you will walk to the dance floor and dance.
• After your dance, “sit” down with Fawn again at the table.
• “Look at Fawn” and she will tell you that she wants to get married. She wants $100. “Give Fawn money” (7 points).
• “Stand” up, and then leave the Disco.
• “Hail a cab” and “enter” taxi
• Tell the cabbie “Casino”
• “Pay” cabbie when you arrive and “exit” taxi

Casino: Married Men Need Money

• Gamble again. You need more money. Get as close to $250 as possible. Remember to save the game every time you win big.
• Exit the Casino
• Walk one screen to the right to get to the Wedding Chapel. You can also take a cab there if you want.

Wedding Chapel: Larry Gets Married

• There’s a Flasher outside. “Talk” to him (1 point).
• Walk inside the chapel. “Give money” to the preacher to start the wedding.
• Marry Fawn (12 points)
• Exit the chapel after the wedding
• Walk one screen left to return to the Casino.

Casino: Fawn Needs Wine

• Enter the casino and walk to the elevator
• Go inside the elevator and “push four” to go to the fourth floor
• Get out of the elevator and walk over to the door with the heart. “Knock” on the door and Fawn will let you in.
• “Turn on the radio” (1 point) and you’ll hear a commercial for Ajax wine delivery. Their number is 555-8039.
• “Talk to Fawn” and she will tell you that she wants some wine. Too bad the phone in the Casino is filled with gum. Good thing you know where a pay phone is located.
• Leave the Casino
• “Hail a taxi” and “enter” the taxi when it pulls up
• Tell the cabbie “store”
• “Pay” cabbie when you arrive and “exit” cab

Quiki-Mart Convenience Store: Wine Delivery

• “Use the phone” and dial Ajax wine delivery: 555-8039.
• Tell Ajax you want “wine” and that you want it delivered to the “honeymoon suite”
• “Hail a cab”, “enter” cab and tell the driver “Casino”
• “Pay” cabbie when you arrive and “exit” taxi

Casino: The Honeymoon

• Enter the Casino, walk to the Lobby, get into the elevator and “press four”
• Walk over to the Honeymoon Suite and “knock” on the door
• “Talk to Fawn,” “pour the wine” and enjoy your brief Honeymoon
• Fawn ties up Larry with some rope
• “Use the knife” to cut the rope (10 points)
• “Take the rope” (3 points)
• Bad news, you’re broke. Fawn took all of your money except $10. Good thing you’re already at the Casino because you wouldn’t be able to afford a taxi ride.
• Gamble again until you have about $50.
• Leave the casino
• “Hail a cab” and “enter” taxi
• Tell the driver “bar”
• “Pay” cabbie when you arrive and “exit” cab

Lefty’s Bar: The Pills

• Enter the bar
• “Knock” on the door to the Storeroom and give the password again: “Ken sent me”
• Go upstairs, ignore the hooker, and climb out the window.
• Remember the pills in the window? Let get them.
• “Tie the rope to rail” and then “tie the rope to self”
• Try to “get the pills” and you’ll discover that you can’t. The window is closed. Good thing you have a hammer.
• “Use the hammer on the window” to break it.
• “Get the pills” (8 points) and “take the rope”
• Drop down the left to the garbage bin below.
• Climb out of the bin and walk to the left.
• “Hail a cab” and take it back to the “Casino”
• “Pay” cabbie and “exit” cab

Casino: Faith The Receptionist

• Enter the Casino and go to the elevator in the Lobby
• Go inside the elevator and “push eight” to go to the eighth floor
• Walk up to the receptionist. Her name is Faith.
• “Look at the girl”
• “Talk to girl” repeatedly until medical stimulation is mentioned
• “Give Faith the pills” (5 points) and she’ll take them. Don’t get your hopes up for Larry just yet. Larry. Faith will run off to have sex with her boyfriend.
• “Look at the desk” and you’ll notice a button
• “Push the button” and the golden elevator doors will open. Enter the elevator (5 points) and it will take you to the Penthouse.

Casino: Eve And The Penthouse

• “Look” and you’ll notice a closet
• “Open the closet door”
• Enter the closet and “look” to notice a blowup doll
• “Take Doll” (5 points) and “inflate the doll” (5 points)
• Try to “have sex with the doll” multiple times (8 points)
• The Doll will pop and fly away and Larry will chase after it into a rooftop garden with a woman in a hot tub.
• Walk over to the woman and “look at the woman”
• “Take off clothes” and “get into the hot tub”
• “Look at the girl” again and “talk to the girl”
• Her name is Eve. Good thing you bought that Apple at the Casino.
• “Turn off the bubbles”
• “Give Eve the Apple” (40 points)

Poor Larry Laffer. There are hazards everywhere in this game. Here are just some of the funny and weird ways to die in Leisure Suit Larry in The Land Of The Lounge Lizards.

Anywhere In The Game

• Watch the clock and don’t run out of time. Larry needs to lose his virginity before sunrise. Sadly, neither the hooker or the blowup doll count. Fail your mission and Larry Laffer will take his own sad life.
• Don’t walk in the street. You will get run over.
• Stay out of all alleys except the alley to the right of Lefty’s Bar. Otherwise, a thug will beat you to death.
• Don’t take a cab ride with insufficient funds or forget to pay the taxi driver. Either will result in him beating you and then running you over with his taxi.
• Don’t go broke. Keep visiting the Casino to increase your cash flow.

Lefty’s Bar

• Don’t “flush” the toilet at Lefty’s Bar, or you’ll drown.
• Don’t have sex without a condom. You’ll die of an STD.
• Don’t attempt oral sex with the hooker. She bites it off.
• Don’t forget to remove the condom after sex or the Police will arrest you.
• Don’t try to climb over the rail on the fire escape without a rope. You’ll fall and die.
• Don’t take the pills. They will inspire you to have an encounter with a dog that sends you to prison for the rest of your life.
• Don’t take a cab ride with the glass of whiskey in your inventory. The driver will drink it and you’ll die in a drunk driving accident.

• Don’t go broke gambling. Save your game after you win and restore after you lose.

Honeymoon Suite

• Don’t meet Fawn in the Honeymoon Suite unless you have the knife in your inventory. Also, make sure that you DO NOT SAVE your game during this sequence or you might trap yourself have to restart from the beginning of the game. This happened to me in the late 1980s. I made the mistake of saving my game right before Fawn ties Larry up. When I went to restore my game, I realized my fatal mistake. I had saved the game in the middle of the sequence. Restoring the game didn’t give me an opportunity to leave the room. Also, I had saved over my only saved game. I was so frustrated that I gave up and didn’t beat the game until 30+ years later when I wrote this article.
