The 6 Best Environmentally Friendly Cars To Consider (2019)

It’s a fact: the planet is warming. The icecaps are melting, polar bears are dying, and climate change is happening – whether we’re ready for it or not. Climate scientists released a recent report that we only have 12 years to change our ways before we irrevocably destroy the planet. So, it’s in everyone’s best interest if we start looking into ways to reduce our carbon footprint.

One fairly easy way to reduce your environmental impact is by choosing more eco-friendly cars. Vehicles, after all, are America’s biggest source of CO2 emissions. It’s time to put your dreams of a Lamborghini aside. Here are the best environmentally friendly cars to consider in 2019.

The Most Environmentally Friendly Cars Of 2019

Here are a few green cars to consider when you’re on the hunt for a new set of wheels with eco-friendly benefits:

Nissan Leaf

An attractive five-door hatchback is perfect for your commute or road trip. 60% of the plastic inside the Leaf’s interior is made from recycled water bottles. And when your Leaf finally goes to the great big used car lot in the sky, 99% of the car is completely recyclable.

If you’re worried about the batteries being unreliable, put those fears to rest. The batteries for the Nissan Leaf have an 8-year, 100,000-mile warranty.

Mercedes-Benz C 350e Plug-in Hybrid

The C 350e Plug-in Hybrid isn’t just fast (0-60mph in only 5.8 seconds) and in the luxury category of hybrid vehicles, it also gets an impressive 61 MPG on highways and 45 MPG for city driving. You can also use a regular, household electric power outlet to charge the Mercedes C350e. And a full charge takes less than 3.5 hours.

NERD NOTE: Some states offer a hybrid rebate that can lower the price of a new hybrid car. For example, a Mercedes-Benz dealer in Houston / Fort Worth area of Texas is offering $2,500 in rebates for customers purchasing a new low-emission vehicle.

Tesla Model 3

If you’re ready to make the jump to a fully electric car, you may want to consider Tesla’s Model 3. You can go practically anywhere thanks to the 310-mile range on a single charge. In addition, there are two independent electric motors that digitally control torque on the front and back wheels. These motors can respond to road and condition changes within 10 milliseconds. Plus, Tesla just makes cool electric cars.

Perhaps one of the most innovative parts of the Tesla Model 3 is the interior which boasts a glass roof from the front to the rear, giving you an unparalleled view of the outside. Plus, you can access all of your controls through the centrally located 15-inch touchscreen.

Toyota Prius Two Eco

The Toyota Prius is a classic, environmentally friendly car that Toyota has been offering for years. The newest models take advantage of an aerodynamic exterior that includes stabilizing fins and underbody panels to smooth out airflow. This, in turn, helps with saving money and making the most out of your fuel efficiency.

According to Toyota, the Prius series has reduced CO2 emissions by 11,794,335 tons. With the Prius Two Eco, you can expect 58 mpg in the city. You’ll definitely notice those savings if you have a long commute to work every day. Fun fact: 90% of Prius models sold in the last decade are still on the road today – so you know if you get this model, your investment will last.

Hyundai Ioniq

One of the best aspects of this Hyundai Ioniq model is that it’s available as a petrol-electric hybrid, a plug-in, or as a pure electric vehicle. The plug-in version of this car has a range of 30 miles while the EV version has a range over 170 miles. It would be a good cruising and commuting car for those who don’t need a huge range and care more about fuel economy.

BMW i3

With its unique and stylish compact car look, the BMW i3 is a funky take on what it means to be a green car. It has an impressive range of around 190 miles – so that will cover most trips you take. It boasts a carbon fiber construction making the body strong but light. Plus, the interior uses natural fibers, bolstering the car’s eco-cred and helping earn a spot on this list of environmentally friendly cars.

Nobody can save the earth individually, but together, we can make small changes that help the environment. One helpful step you can take in your personal life is considering a low-emission car or green vehicle instead of a gas-guzzler which can reduce your personal carbon footprint. Who knows, maybe your choice in eco-friendly cars will inspire others to follow your lead!
