Get Creative With Your Facebook Profile Pic [tutorial]

Have you ever seen a friend’s terrible Facebook profile picture? It’s not because they’re ugly or fail to understand that one’s profile picture should not be of a newborn child. Sometimes it’s just too darn small or they don’t realize that a vertical-oriented picture works best.

Well, here’s the lowdown. Any photo you upload as your profile pic will sized down to 200 pixels in width. It’s the height you have a little more leeway with and is pretty much endless, hence the reason vertical photos work best. But if you’re putting this much thought into a Facebook profile pic, you might as well take it to the next level, add some depth and use your creative genius.

All Facebook has a great guide on how to make it appear as though your photo defies the laws of Facebook physics, but others have also pitched in to share a .psd template on which you can past and style your photos. Simply paste your likeness on a new layer and draw/erase to make some magic happen.

One great example is the antlers (pictured above), but there are really endless possibilities. And besides, it’s fun to add some personality to your digital profiles. Your Facebook stalker acquaintances will thank you with their heavy breathing.
