NBC Universal has turned to the fast growing appssavvy, a firm focused on selling advertising within the rapidly expanding universe of 3rd party applications on social networking sites, to handles sales responsibilities for the company’s soon to launch Facebook app.
Sometime this month, NBCU will roll out NBC News iCue, a news-themed app designed for Facebook which blends gaming and archival news video. The application, created by NBC Learn–the education-focused division of NBC News–is aimed primarily at students as well as the intellectually curious, said NBCU executives.
Appssavvy’s role will be to monetize NBC News iCue via traditional and customized ad programs. Founded earlier this year, the company represents inventory on various apps reaching over 50 million unique users in total, according to officials. Among Appssavvy’s larger apps partners are Social Gaming Network and Flixster.
