Dimension Films‘ recently announced a new online ad blitz for Scary Movie 4 with messaging that says “Download Videos to iPod.” Clicking on the ads will subscribe fans to a video Scary Movie Podcast that can be automatically synced with a video iPod. This iPod-related promotion is especially relevant considering there’s apparently a killer iPod scene in Scary Movie 4.
Studio Creates A ‘Scary Movie Podcast’ To Help Promote The Film Franchise
Creating a movie podcast is a new and creative way to help promote an upcoming film. The Scary Movie Podcast was developed in-house by the studio’s interactive ad agency, Deep Focus.
What should fans expect to see in the Scary Movie podcast? According to Deep Focus’ founder and CEO Ian Schafer, a “stream of video over time” that includes “Scary Movie” trailers, movie clips like a pillow fight between Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends, and whatever short-form video that Deep Focus and Dimension decide to send out.
The digital ad campaign is scheduled to begin on March 31 and can be seen on websites including Yahoo, Fandango, MovieTickets, and WWE, among others.

The iPod-based promotion for Scary Movie 4 is especially relevant because a giant iPod monster makes a cameo in the film. In the Scary Movie 4 iPod scene, a giant “triPod” emerges from below the street. At first, the triPod starts playing Boy George’s “Karma Chameleon” from its Awesome 80s playlist, but then quickly switches to a “Destroy Humanity” playlist. Then a War Of The Worlds-like create flies out of the iPod click-wheel and starts blasting people as they flee.
