Toshiba announced this week that they will begin producing Blu-ray DVD players. Toshiba had developed the HD-DVD high-definition DVD format and competed and conceded defeat in a format war with Sony’s competing Blu-ray in 2008. Details will be made available later this year, but this move should give some much needed momentum to the Blu-ray format. Blu-ray is losing traction competing against online services like Netflix, which stream movies through the Internet directly to consumers.
