By 2020, the majority of all Internet search requests will be done by voice. Right now, 1 out of every 4 homes in America and 1 out of 6 in the UK has a smart speaker with a voice assistant like an Amazon Echo or a Google Home. And don’t even get me started on Bixby by Samsung. Is it too soon to name this generation, Generation Voice?

Voice Assistants Give Younger Users Access To The Internet
Today, it’s easier than ever for younger kids to get access to the internet. A toddler, too young to read or type, just needs to talk to get access to the Internet. This creates a new set of problems for parents as we can see in this clever commercial from Spark, the New Zealand-based phone and Internet provider.
Things like Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, The Tooth Fairy or even The Halloween Switch Witch might be close to extinction. Kids who want to know the truth, just have to use their voice.
Welcome To Generation Voice
I heard a story yesterday about a friend who took his kindergarten-aged kids on vacation. They went to a remote house in the mountains. The first thing the kids did was ask Alexa to turn on the lights. Not only was there was no Alexa at their mountain house, but no Internet. What a conundrum. Does that mean there will be no light? This really is “generation voice.”
