Having a Husky in hot weather is no fun. These dogs were made for snow, not summer heatwaves. As their providers, it’s up to us to help them stay cool in the summer. Some Husky owners dump piles of ice in the yard or place their beds next to an air conditioner. But is “put Husky in refrigerator” on your list of ideas to help keep a Husky in hot weather happy?

If you are providing for a Husky in hot weather during the summer, then make sure you keep an eye out for heatstroke in our four-legged friends. Heatstroke symptoms include hard panting, glazed-over eyes, quick heartbeat, restlessness, excessive thirst, loss of coordination, salivating too much, vomiting, and loss of consciousness.

Tips To Help Keep Your Husky In Hot Weather Cool During The Summer

1. Safely Keep Your Husky Cool: Huskies hate the heat. This clever dog (see image above) decided to cuddle up inside a refrigerator. While it makes a cute photo opp, it’s not a good idea. Even most walk-in refrigerators are airtight. Closing your pet inside a refrigerator can result in hypothermia and suffocation. Forget the fridge and just crank up your air conditioning.
2. Never Leave A Dog Inside A Hot Car: Even with your windows cracked, your car is an oven. If you lock your pet inside a hot car then they will die. A locked car during the summer can reach 130 degrees inside. Don’t do it! Never lock a pet in a hot car. Just leave your Husky at home in the air conditioning.
3. Give Them Cool Water: Toss a couple of ice cubes in your pet’s water bowl. Cool will help cool down their core temperature. But don’t overdo it. You want toe water to be cool, NOT cold. Too much cold water can actually be dangerous.
4. Limit Physical Activities: Avoid participating in major physical activities like jogging with your dog during heatwaves. They can’t handle it but will try anyway because they love you. Walk your Husky early in the morning while it’s still cool outside.
5. Stay away From Hot Surfaces: Hot asphalt can burn dog paws. Walk your dogs in the shade or earlier or later in the day when it’s cooler outside.
