A slithering surprise was served up recently at an upstate New York T.G.I. Friday’s location when a diner discovered a severed snake head with the vegetables on his plate. The thumb-sized serpentine addition understandably ruined Jack Pendleton‘s appetite when he spotted the “eye sockets” and “mouth” mixed among his veggies.
“I wasn’t too alarmed when I came across a gray mass under the broccoli. Many restaurants include mushrooms in their veggie selection. It was when I noticed the green spots, and then the mouth that I became alarmed. It was a decomposed reptile head. Roughly the size of my thumb from center knuckle to nail.
Email from Jack Pendleton to Consumerist
Pendleton’s initial impression that the snake head was a mushroom. The shocking sight prompted Pendleton to promptly alert his server, who started to gag when he saw the snake head. But before his plate was taken away, Pendleton managed to snap a blurry cell phone picture of the snake head.
Where Did The Snake Head Come From?
According to spokesperson Amy Freshwater, the snake head was sent for testing at an independent laboratory. They determined that the snake had never been cooked and was later added to the cooked broccoli served to Pendleton.
So how did the stray snake head end up garnishing Pendleton’s veggies in the first place? The prevailing theory points to a prankster slipping the head onto Pendleton’s plate when staff weren’t looking. However, T.G.I Friday’s spokeswoman Amy Freshwater admitted, “We don’t know who put the head there.”
The shocking find might have slithered under the radar if Pendleton hadn’t emailed a picture of the snake head to his friends, one of whom shared the image online.
