We’ve all been there — those late nights when a drive-thru cheeseburger and fries seem like manna from heaven. Fast food chains know how to hit that salty, fatty sweet spot in our brains. Their offerings are convenient, cheap, and let’s face it – freaking delicious. But every so often, consumers get more than they bargained for in their grease-laden bags. Way more. From peculiar animal parts to the downright nauseating, here are the grossest things found lurking inside fast food orders.

Chicken Head in a McDonald’s Happy Meal
It was an average Monday night in 2000 when Katherine Ortega of Virginia stopped at McDonald’s and picked up an order of chicken wings for her family. While serving the wings to her kids, she noticed one piece looked strange. She peered closer. To her horror, it was an intact deep-fried chicken head – beak, eyes, and all. One can only imagine how quickly the contents of Ortega’s stomach might have ended up alongside the rogue chicken head.
She sued McDonald’s for $100,000.
Popeye’s Accidentally Serves Customer A Chicken Heart
When a couple from Ocala, Fla. stopped into their local Popeye’s for a late night bite on the way home from the movies, they expected crispy chicken goodness – not animal organs. But as they lifted the lid on their meal, there it was clinging to a piece of breaded breast, the dark, shriveled form of what appeared to be a chicken heart.
He posted a video of the mystery “organ” on YouTube.
Popeye’s Fried Mouse Head Meal
A Baltimore man made an unpleasant discovery when he found a deep-fried mouse in his meal. Health investigators later found a mouse infestation at the restaurant. Yuck!
Rat in Baked Beans
In 2010, a dead rat was discovered inside a can of baked beans at a factory in the UK. Investigators think that the rat had fallen into the can and was sealed inside during production.
The tainted beans were discovered when opened by a cook. Luckily no customers were exposed to the “bean rat”. But an image of the rat went viral on social media sites.
Snake’s Head at TGI Fridays
Jack Pendleton was dining with friends at TGI Fridays when he found a snake head mixed in with his vegetables. An investigation found the snake head was added after cooking. The culprit remains unknown.
Human Finger In Wendy’s Chili
In 2005, a woman claimed she bit into a severed human finger while dining at Wendy’s. San Jose, Calif., police investigated the incident and tried to determine where the finger came from. After all employees and food production staff had all of their digits accounted for, the woman later admitted to placing the finger in her food in an attempt to sue the company.
So, where did the finger come from? Looking to profit from the scam, her husband’s friend “donated” the finger. Even though this incident was a scam, we still included it on this list because…. there was a human finger in a bowl of chili!!!! So nasty!
Customer Finds A Human Finger In Arby’s Sandwich
Several years later, someone really did find a finger in their food. In 2012, Ryan Hart, a teenager from Jackson, Michigan, “tasted something like rubber” in his Arby’s sandwich and spit out an actual severed finger from an Arby’s employee. OMG!
KFC Deep Fried Paper Towel
A boy in England bit into what he assumed was a piece of KFC chicken, only to find out it was a deep fried blue paper towel. One can only hope it was unused! Wishful thinking.
Condom In A McDonald’s Happy Meal
In 2009, a 7-year-old girl in Switzerland found a condom among the french fries in her Happy Meal. Her mother contacted the police to report the unpleasant surprise.

In 1997, a man named Jeff Bolling apparently found a condom (unused, thank goodness) in his Big Mac. This caused him to become violently ill. Understandably disgusted, he promptly sued McDonald’s. The company denied wrongdoing.
Mouse in a Curry Jar
In 2009, Cate Barrett purchased a jar of Tikka Masala sauce from an Asda store in England. When she poured the sauce over pasta, she noticed it had an unusual lumpy texture. Upon closer inspection, she found a dead mouse in the jar. Asda apologized and removed the product from shelves.
Knife In A Subway Sandwich
Of course, condoms and mice aren’t the only foreign objects found hiding in our food. In 2022, a customer from a Syracuse, NY Subway restaurant almost ate a knife inside her sandwich wrapper. Kayla Caswell posted a video of the incident with the caption “A KNIFE WAS LEFT IN MY SANDWICH.”

In 2014, a man in California who ordered a milkshake from In-N-Out Burger found two capsules containing methamphetamine at the bottom of his cup. He attempted to sue the chain but they denied any wrongdoing.
Walmart’s Razor Blade Ice Cream
In 2011, a woman from East Texas bit into a razor blade while eating Great Value ice cream purchased from a Wal-Mart. Surprisingly, she did not blame or sue anyone. She simply asked Wal-Mart to ensure this would not happen again.
McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets With Feathers
Raquel House was enjoying her McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets when noticed something weird in her mouth. “And that’s when I saw that there was a white hair on my tongue,” she told reporters, “and I looked at my food, and there were feathers coming off the nugget.”
Arby’s Human Skin Sandwich
In 2005, David Scheiding bit into a piece of human skin while eating a chicken sandwich at Arby’s. “It looked like I was seeing fingerprints on it,” he told reporters. “I got sick and went to the bathroom.”
The skin came from the restaurant manager who had cut his thumb while preparing lettuce. The manager sanitized the area but neglected to throw away the lettuce. Scheiding collected $50,000 from the incident.

A Canadian family allegedly found a used Band-Aid in their order of McDonald’s french fries. After notifying the restaurant manager, the family claims that the staff tried to takeaway evidence from them. McDonald’s Canada conducted an investigation and later said that the family’s claims were bogus.
“Bloody” Taco Bell Tacos
In 1996, a customer discovered what appeared to be human blood on her food purchased from a Taco Bell. Employees implied the bloody Taco Bell tacos came from an employee’s cut finger.
Bullets in Costco Hot Dog
In 2004, Olivia Chanes from Mission Viejo, CA was eating a Costco hot dog purchased from the Costco food court when she bit down on a live round of 9mm ammunition. Abdominal x-rays also revealed another bullet in her stomach. Worried doctors advised Chanes to let the bullet pass naturally. A Police investigation found no additional bullets.
Burger King Syringe Sandwich
An American soldier stationed in Hawaii says he was injured by a needle after bitting into a Burger King Triple Stacker sandwich. Army Staff Sgt. Clark Bartholomew says the needle left him seriously injured and made his tongue bleed. A second needle was later found in his small intestine. Bartholomew sued Burger King for “severe physical injury” to his tongue, stomach, and rectum.
McDonald’s Hashbrowns And Roaches
In 2012, a man in the Netherlands purchased a hash brown from McDonald’s. He later discovered a deep-fried cockroach attached to the potato cake. The cockroach was hidden from view by the paper the hash brown was served in. Thankfully, the man had not eaten the insect.

When Fred DeNegri opened a can of Diet Pepsi in his backyard, he swallowed thick pink slime instead of soda. After persistent shaking, a heavy object remained. Lab testing found a decomposing frog at the bottom of the can.
