Yahoo introduced a new site design for the Yahoo TV section of the search engine as part of its effort to keep pace with new ways of consuming television online.
Yahoo TV’s makeover, the first in five years for the service, follows efforts by small and large video sites in the last several months to introduce new features in what’s become the increasingly competitive online video business.
The site revamp brings new features to Yahoo TV, such as an embedded video player. This new style of player is now considered critical because it lets viewers navigate around the page while the video plays on that same page. In addition, the new site includes a dynamic menu with links to TV shows generating the most buzz at any given moment, collections of videos related to different themes, and a personalized TV grid that follows users as they navigate the site.
Yahoo TV’s traffic is up 25 percent for October with 7.5 million unique users, compared to 6 million a year ago, according to Nielsen Net Ratings.
