NBC audible moves Bears-Giants game to night

NBC audible moves Bears-Giants game to night 1The NFL officially announced Tuesday that the Bears game at the New York Giants will be moving to NBC’s prime-time slot Nov. 12.

The game is the first to be moved under NBC’s new flexible schedule agreement with the NFL. With the exception of the Philadelphia-Dallas game on Christmas night, a to-be-determined game during Weeks 10 through 15 and the final week of the season will be shifted to an evening kickoff.

Certain games already have been earmarked for NBC, provided they remain attractive. The Bears-Giants game could generate the highest ratings of the season if the Bears remain undefeated going into the New Jersey Meadowlands. The Giants-Dallas game Monday night handed ESPN the largest audience in the history of cable with an average of 11.8 million households tuning in. It beat the NAFTA debate between Al Gore and Ross Perot on CNN in 1993.

“You couldn’t ask for a better start to this whole new policy of allowing the late-season games to evolve into the top matchup of the day as often as possible,” said NBC Sports Chairman Dick Ebersol.
