It’s easy to be cynical about someone who makes this kind of money, but in case you missed it, Facebook Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently pledged to give half his fortune to charity. It’s such a massive commitment that Mark Zuckerberg’s charity contributions put other tech CEOs to shame.
America’s Wealthiest Agree To Share Their Fortunes
Zuckerberg is one of the latest to join Bill Gates and Warren Buffett’s The Giving Pledge, an initiative to encourage America’s wealthiest to share their fortunes with society. Other noteworthy individuals involved in the pledge include Carl Icahn, Ted Forstmann, and Zuckerberg’s former Harvard roommate and Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz.
As it turns out, Zuckerberg was inspired to make the contribution. It occurred to him that far too many wealthy individuals wait until late in their careers to start giving back. But to him, there is no time like the present to get started and the possibility of living to see what your gift has done for people was too enticing to pass up. However, this is not the first charitable contribution Zuckerberg has ponied up. In September, he announced he would give $100 million to help support the ailing Newark, NJ school system.

Say what you want about Facebook and it’s privacy battles, I’m pretty impressed by Zuckerberg’s charitable gestures and this even kinda, sorta makes up for anything wrong he’s condoned. Even if he technically does not have to immediately part with his money, I can tell he’s committed to leaving a positive imprint on the world. Now for the interesting part… what will his causes of choice be? Everything?
