Think old people tend to get away with everything? Not in Texas. A feisty 72-year-old grandmother found herself on the wrong end of a police taser after disobeying a Texas sheriff’s deputy. After the video of this police taser grandmother incident was released, it quickly went viral online.
Texas Police Use Taser On Grandmother
On May 11, Kathryn Winkfein from Granite Shoals, Texas was pulled over in Austin by Travis County Constable Deputy Chris Bieze for speeding. The 72-year-old great-grandmother was allegedly driving 60 mph in a 45 mph speed construction zone.
During the traffic stop, Winkfein can be heard arguing with the officer and refusing to sign the speeding ticket. The grandmother then dares the officer to shoot her with the taser as she tries to get back into her car. That’s when the officer fired the taser to subdue the grandmother and bring the situation under control. The officer’s dashboard camera caught the entire incident on tape.
Why The Police Taser Video Was Released
The taser video was released by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office to refute statements by Winkein that she had done nothing to the police.
“I wasn’t argumentative, I was not combative. This is a lie. All of this is a lie, pulled away from him I did not,” she said, reading the arrest affidavit.
The video has quickly become an Internet sensation. It’s tough to resist not clicking on links that say things like “Texas Police User Taser On Grandmother” or “Police Taser Grandmother For Speeding”.
