There have been numerous rumors about large television networks venturing into Central and Eastern European markets.
Now, we finally have a confirmation. Media conglomerate NBC Universal confirmed plans to expand to the region, including the Czech market. The U.S.-based network announced a far-reaching strategy aimed at launching 20 new local TV channels in 23 new markets in Europe, Asia and Latin America that are expected to more than double the revenues of the group’s Global Networks Division within the next three years, the network’s representatives said in a statement.
Today, NBC Universal runs 12 local entertainment channels in 35 countries. The expansion plan envisages a portfolio of 32 channels in 58 countries. The first step will be the launch of Sci-Fi channels in Latin America, and Sci-Fi and 13th Street channels in the Netherlands.
