It’s not every day that you see some medieval knights fighting on a sidewalk… unless you live in Pittsburgh. This mock battle scene between two LARP nerds was captured on camera by the Google Street View car as it drove through a suburban Pittsburgh neighborhood.
LARP Nerds Busted By Google Street View
Here’s a link to the Google Street View photo for this LARP photo. Feel free to check out the rest of the neighborhood. If you pan a little to the left you’ll see a guy riding a bike. He’s clearly confused by the LARP nerd fight.
What Is LARP?
In case you aren’t familiar with the term (please don’t feel bad if you aren’t), LARP stands for live action role-playing. The guys in the image above are basically acting out a live version of a World of Warcraft game… in public.
If you’ve even been to a Renaissance Faire, theme park like Harry Potter World, or a Medieval Times restaurant before, then you’ve already had a LARP experience.
NERD NOTE: Although this is more on the fringe of LARPing, some LARPers have been known to get a little wild and even engage in sex games while in costume.
Google’s Quest To Photograph The World
Google captures some oddities and interesting things with their cameras every day. Between their special Google Street View Cars and high-resolution satellite images, Google might have the most thorough record of life on Earth ever collected. But when you are photographing the entire planet, you are bound to find some oddities. Not to mention lots of embarrassing stuff.
Caught On Camera… By Google
Want more? LARP nerds battling in the streets of Pittsburgh are just the beginning! Here are some more things Google has captured on camera:
- The Biggest Sony PSP on Earth
- Comet Craters Found Using Google Earth
- Aliens in Area 51
- Maxim Models from Space
- Giant iPods
- Naked People on Google Earth

It was an art project. The idea was that in the eyes or google street view, this street was the most interesting street in the country. There were other besides this shot. There's a sculpture of a giant chicken, a person climbing out of window with a rope made of sheets tied together, firemen rescuing a cat out of a tree, etc. I haven't found them all yet, but there's quite a few.

LARP itself is not a sex game, but we did interview someone who had a traumatizing LARP sex experience. Please read this article for more info: My First LARP Experience: From Tears To Lesbian Sex Games, Here’s How I Lost My LARP Virginity

I love going to Renaissance Faires, but have never been tempted by the idea of dressing up. It feels too weird. For me, it would be like an adult wearing pajamas to work at a law firm.
