That was fast. Netflix’s Qwikster DVD strategy is dead before it even launched. After weeks of falling stock prices, Netflix killed its unpopular plan to split up its streaming video and DVD by mail businesses into two separate brands. Instead, it will continue to maintain both its DVD and streaming businesses as just Netflix.
Qwikster Netflix Is Dead
In an email that went out to members early this morning, Netflix said:
“It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs. This means no change: one website, one account, one password…in other words, no Qwikster. While the July price change was necessary, we are now done with price changes.”
Netflix Subscribers Growth & Platform Innovations
Despite Wall Street predictions of a decline, Netflix has enjoyed steady growth in the last few years and added streaming support to the new Internet-ready Blu-ray DVD players, the Apple TV, and the(Amazon link) Roku among others. However, its stock priced plummeted 60% this summer due to price changes, and of course the unpopular decision to launch Qwikster DVD.
