But one of the most obvious signs of an empty home, is a dark house, or one with a predictable automatic light schedule.

Is There A Security Light That Flickers Like A TV?

When walking through your neighborhood at night, you’ve probably noticed the subtle light flickering inside people’s homes when they are watching TV.

Before I went away on my last vacation, I was walking my dog one night and got an idea. I noticed several house in my neighborhood all had blue lights flickering inside when they were watching TV. Could I create a fake TV simulator to make it look like I was home during my vacation?

As I was brainstorming ideas, I considered using blue Christmas lights, a fan, and a light timer to create a flickering light simulator. However, while trying to cobble together this makeshift TV simulator, I smartly decided to do a Google search for “fake tv light simulator.” To my surprise, I discovered that someone had already thought of this (of course) and created a product. Instead of wasting time and effort on my convoluted Christmas light contraption, I decided to invest the $15 in a fake TV simulator.

Fake TV Light Simulators: Installation And Use

TV simulation devices are easy to install and can be placed near a window or any other visible location. Once turned on, they emit a realistic, random sequence of light patterns that simulate the appearance of a television screen.

Most fake TV light simulators have automatic timers that will turn on automatically at dusk for either 4 or 7 hours. However, if the model you buy doesn’t have an automatic dusk feature, then you will need to use a separate light timer.

Just make sure that the TV simulator that you buy has a power source that meets your needs. Some models are battery only, USB powered, or have an AC adapter.

Personally, I recommend buying the AC adapter models. Not only do you avoid the hassle of constantly replacing batteries, but the LED lights used in these TV simulation devices barely use any energy. This means you can enjoy the added security without having to worry about a spike in your monthly electricity bill.
