The programmers at Google like to have fun and regularly create hidden Easter Eggs in their software. Here are some fun Google Easter Eggs that will make your browser do tricks and play games. NOTE: These work best in the Google Chrome web browser.
01) Atari Breakout
First released in 1976, Atari Breakout was a favorite title with gamers for decades. As a tribute to Breakout, Google created an Easter Egg game hidden within a Google Image Search. To activate the Easter Egg, just do a Google Image search for “Atari Breakout“. The images from your search results will transform into colored bricks for you to breakout of your browser.
02) Let It Snow
Type in the phrase “let it snow” in the Google search bar and you’ll be treated to your own personal snow storm. This trick may or may not work. It comes and goes with the winter season. We’ve been unable to get it to work during summer months.
03) Google Gravity
This Google experiment will make your web browser break up into pieces and fall to the bottom of your screen. To see it for yourself, type “Google Gravity” in the search bar on the Google homepage and then click on the “Google Search button. 04) Anagram
An anagram is a word or phrase that can be created using letters from the original. For example, an anagram of the word anagram is “nag a ram”. If you try a Google search for “anagram” guess what it says?
05) Askew
Search for “askew” and your browser tab will tilt slightly.
06) Hanukkah & Play Dreidel
This is another seasonal Google Easter Egg. It may not work all year long. Try searching for the Jewish holiday “Hanukkah” and a string of lights will appear across the top of your screen.
You can also search for “play dreidel” for a virtual dreidel game that you can play in your browser.
07) Zerg Rush
A Zerg Rush is a term from the real-time strategy (RTS) game Starcraft where you rush attack your opponent with lower-level units. To activate the Google Zerg Rush Easter Egg, just Google search”Zerg Rush“. Then Google O’s will eat your search results.
08) Do A Barrell Roll
Search for the phrase “do a barrel roll” on Google.com and your entire browser will rotate around in a full 360º spin.
09) Play Pac-Man
A Google Doodle version of the classic arcade game Pac-Man is built into Google Search. To activate, just search for “Pac-Man“. You can also play Google Pac-Man here in case Google takes it down. BTW have you seen Pac-Dog yet?
10) Smarty Pins
Were you paying attention in geography class? Smarty Pins combines Google Maps with geography trivia. To play, go to the Smarty Pins page.
